PX RANGERS for underground mining

The project, for BHP Cannington, began way back in March 2012 when the new PX Ford Rangers were delivered with a list pf specific requirements necessary for underground operation.

We were flying solo and neither Ford Australia nor BHP was certain of the outcome or aware of the hurdles we would overcome.

After months of research, development and then intensive testing of the equipment the vehicles are now ready for operation.

The Rangers required custom, mine specific in-cab wiring designed from detailed specifications. The list of other work included:

* Bullbar and custom side steps

* Custom tray back and custom push bar

*Fire suppression system & Braided stainless brake lines

*Internal gearbox and transfer case lockouts

*Speed and rev limitersand failsafe braking system

*Site specific radio and strobe and rotating beacons

*Work and reverse lights

*Custom jump start and vehicle isolator

*Low coolant alarm and high visibility tape

*Rubber wheel arch flares, seat covers and floor mats

*Wheel nut indicators

Air bags are not required for underground operation so they were also removed from the vehicles.

All that was left to do was to load them up and send them on their way...
