Wet friction consists of discs completely enclosed in an axle or wheel end. This keeps the discs safe from dust or debris which can impede brake performance. In a wet brake system the enclosed rotor is immersed in a petroleum based product providing an internal cooling system.
The system is ideal for underground mining where sparks are a common concern. Wet braking systems are designed to improve safety, reliability and operating costs in harsh environments or in situations of frequent braking.
